Regional Application of ASCE Manual No. 50
Publication: Journal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division
Volume 97, Issue 1
Abstract
Marina designers and planners using ASCE Manual No. 50 as a guide should recognize the regional application of the manual in terms of a marina project's particular charateristics and should place additional emphasis on ecological, environmental, and economic consideration. Regional considerations in determining area tributary to a marina, and the relationship of a harbor facility to its environment are generally described. Aid is available for determination of changes in coastlines through use of historical navigational charts. Suggestions are made to aid the designer in the arrangement of inner harbor structures, desk framing load requirements, wastewater disposal, and electrical service. The continually changing money market requires the aid of economic and financial consultants in order to finalize total project feasibility. Future research is required on the subject of partial wave barriers.
