Abstract
Regression analysis is used to select a prediction equation for the determination of wave forces on circular pipes resting on a flat boundary under the action of intermediate water waves. Dimensional analysis is applied to reduce the number of independent variables from five to three so that the prediction equation will fit a range of pipe diameters, water depths, and wave heights. The prediction procedure outlined in this paper is applied to only two of the possible models, and analysis of variance is used to select the better fitting model. The original data and the predicted data curves are presented in separate figures.
