Abstract
A method of in-situ testing using electro-osmosis to obtain mass consolidation properties of fine-grained soils under load was evaluated by experimental studies conducted in the laboratory under controlled conditions. A clay sample, prepared inside a specially designed test chamber by isotropically consolidating a bag of slurry, with a model testing probe inserted in it was tested. Consolidation parameters obtained by the new method were found to compare favorably with values deduced from the results of direct consolidation tests.
