Response of Piles to Vibratory Loads
Publication: Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division
Volume 103, Issue 2
Abstract
Frequently, deep rather than shallow foundations must be used to support combined static, vibratory, and shock loads. Typically, pile foundations are used in such cases. By comparison to shallow foundations (1), piles can assure: (1) Greater resistance to combined effects of static and dynamic load; (2) higher natural frequency; (3) lower amplitude of vibrations; and (4) lower residual dynamic settlement of the foundation.
