Consolidation with Internal Pressure Generation

Abstract
Cyclic loading on saturated soils usually caused both a rise and fall in the excess pore pressure and a net increase of the pore pressure with each cycle. When no drainage occurs, the pore pressure can build up until liquefaction or cyclic mobility develops. Most liquefaction investigations have been concerned with the effects of earthquakes, which last so short a time that dissipation of excess pore pressure cannot be considered important except for very porous materials. However, the time involved in cyclic loadings from ocean waves can be quiet long, and therefore consolidation may be significant in the performance of offshore structures.
