Normalized Design Procedures in Sensitive Clays

Abstract
The concept of using normalized soil behavior as a basis for design procedures in clay soil has been applied by several engineering groups. Ladd and Foott have presented a detailed background and description of a design technique, stress history and normalized soil engineering properties, and its application to the problem of undrained bearing capacity. This note is presented to describe these methods and illustrate the difference from SHANSEP.
