Side Friction in Model Retaining- Wall Experiments

Abstract
Many experiments performed to study lateral earth pressures in soils are done on samples of soil contained in parallel sided boxes. The retaining wall is set up perpendicular to the two sides of the box so that the soil is subjected to plane deformation when the retaining wall is moved.
