Abstract
The hazards associated with soil liquefaction during earthquakes have become increasingly apparent in recent years. In the 1971 San Fernando earthquake (Mag. 6.6) with an epicentral region located about 25 miles (40 km) north of Los Angeles, damage due to liquefaction was estimated to exceed $30,000,000 (12).
