Transit Signal Priority Optimization with Vehicle Operating Characteristics Analysis at Intersections

Publication: CICTP 2019

Abstract

The method of transit signal priority optimization is presented by analyzing vehicle operating characteristics at intersections. Taking the intersection with transit signal priority as the subject, this study analyzes the periodic stop and travel state of motor vehicles at intersections to study the distribution features of the headway and the model of delay with the arrival and departure process of vehicles. Then it develops a transit signal priority optimization model, which takes the minimum per capita delay of the intersection as the optimization goal and considers the saturated flow rate constraints of the intersection. Then it optimizes the bus phase selectively. Taking the Caochangmen Street and Longyuan West Road intersection as an example, it calibrates the model parameters with the measured data. The simulation platform based on VISSIM software is built and the simulation results are verified.
