Abstract
Transit oriented development (TOD), is highly recognized as an ideal pattern for the coordinated development of urban transportation and land use, and is widely applied to solve traffic problems in large cities in China. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of TOD projects reflected on built-up environment. Various indexes of built-up environments were selected in accordance with TOD concept and principle to make the estimation quantitative and objective. Digital map data was collected for index calculation and graph comparison to analyze the characteristics of the environments of Nanjing and Singapore. The research found that compared to Singapore’s mature multi-center development pattern with well-functioning public transit system, Nanjing is still at the stage of single-center mode and needs improvements in land use development around the subway station, road network, public transit system, and parking-transfer facilities.
