Car Ownership Growth Pattern of County-Level Regions in Jiangsu, China

Rapid growth of car ownership can bring severe pressure on traffic management. Numerous studies have been conducted based on car ownership data at the prefecture level. However, few studies have been conducted to explore car ownership data at the county level. In China, prefecture-level regions are often made up of three types of county-level region, namely districts (urban area), counties, and county-level cities. Car ownership growth pattern may vary greatly among different types of county-level regions. This study was therefore set out to explore car ownership growth pattern of county-level regions based on data collected in Jiangsu, China. It was found that the relationship between car ownership at the county level and its influential factors varies significantly across different county-level region types, indicating that the relationship between car ownership at the county level and its influential factors should be tailored according to region type.
