Framework of a 3D GIS Based Airport Pavement Management System

Abstract
Recently, airport infrastructure construction has been rapidly developed at different regions with the continuous development of air transportation. Although much attention had been paid to the construction of infrastructure, the study of scientific and rational airport infrastructure management is rather limited. In this paper, an airport pavement management system (APMS) based on 3D geographic information system (GIS) was proposed, which plays a significant role in enhancing the maintenance and rehabilitation efficiency of airport pavement. The method of the 3D GIS modeling, the framework of the 3D GIS based APMS and a simply decision-making process including decision tree and optimization was introduced. Data management, condition evaluation, and maintenance results of the airport management work can be easily illustrated with the 3D GIS. Therefore, the efficiency and accuracy of airport pavement monitoring can be greatly improved with 3D GIS, which provides a comprehensive and visual method to manage airport pavements.
