Abstract
Catia software was used to construct three-dimensional models. The three-dimensional flow in the diesel engine with helical intake port was simulated by XFlow. XFlow is based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) and uses large Eddy simulation (LES) to solve turbulence. Firstly, select a 10 mm valve lift which has a great influence on the intake process to analyze the lattice independence. The swirl ratio of numerical simulation was then compared with the test value to determine the lattice settings scale. Next, use the determined lattice settings scale to simulate other valve lift models to calculate swirl ratio and flow coefficient. The values obtained from the simulations were validated on a steady flow-test bench. The swirl ratio deviation is less than 10%, and the deviation of flow coefficient is less than 2%. The regular swirl ratio and flow coefficient with valve lift is summarized.
