Research on Method of Determining Speed Limit in Freeway Traffic Accident Protected Area Based on Aimsun Simulation

Publication: CICTP 2019

Abstract

Speed limit control of freeway traffic accident protected areas can reduce the dispersion of vehicle speed and the adverse impact of traffic accidents, which can improve the safety and efficiency of vehicle operation in protected areas. An eight-lane freeway was taken as the research object to analyze the different traffic organization forms and the traffic flow characteristics of the different behavior sections in the protected areas. Evaluation indexes were selected considering the safety and efficiency of traffic operation synthetically and the traffic simulation model of the freeway protected area under different accident condition was constructed based on Aimsun. Based on the simulation results, this paper proposes the method of determining the speed limit under different traffic organization forms and different traffic volumes.
