Abstract
In recent years, traffic accidents caused by random crossings in towns and villages have occurred frequently, but studies have paid less attention to pedestrian crossing behavior in low-grade highway segments of these areas. This paper aims to analyze the characteristics of pedestrian crossing behavior and their preference for crossing facilities in low-grade highway segments through towns and villages in China. Through the combination of video observation, questionnaire survey and field investigation, binomial logistic regression is used to establish a model to explore the factors that influence whether pedestrians prefer to use crossing facilities to cross the street. Results show that pedestrians’ preference for crossing facilities is significantly related to age, education, extreme waiting time, and extreme detour distance. This study can provide reference for the use of pedestrian crossing facilities in low-grade highway segments through towns and villages.
