Shear Behavior of Prestressed Concrete Box Girders with Corrugated Steel Webs: An Overview

Abstract

Prestressed concrete box girder with corrugated steel webs is a relatively new form of bridge superstructure, and the corrugated steel web has been long recognized as the most typical shear carrying member. To clarify the shear behavior of this type of box girder, theoretical analysis, and literature survey are conducted and the latest findings are reviewed, including shear buckling strength of corrugated steel web, shear transfer efficiency of the variable cross-section prestressed concrete box girder with corrugated steel webs, and non-uniformity in the shear stress distribution in different webs of the single-box multi-cell box girder with corrugated steel webs. Based on these findings, it is crucial to establish an effective and efficient shear design method with the aim of promoting the application and development of prestressed concrete box girders with corrugated steel webs in bridge engineering.
