GPS-Assisted EFIS Airspeed Calibration

Publication: Earth and Space 2012: Engineering, Science, Construction, and Operations in Challenging Environments

Abstract

We describe a method to accurately calibrate indicated airspeed for an electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) which records key parameters for offline analysis. The technique is based on estimating airspeed error, heading error, and wind vector. Examples are provided for two popular experimental aircraft EFISs.
