Spatial Variability of the Geomechanical Parameter RQD at the Animas Ore Deposit in Peru
Publication: Geo-Frontiers 2011: Advances in Geotechnical Engineering
Abstract
In this work some techniques for geometric modeling and geoestatiscal analysis were applied for evaluation of the spatial variability of the geotechnical parameter RQD (Rock Quality Designation) at the Animas ore deposit in Peru, on basis of 162 drill core logging covering an area of 600 times; 800 m2. The study of the five lithological types present in this deposit allowed the knowledge of the quality of the rock mass to be improved in some regions where rock samples were not available. The methods herein employed for RQD forecasts were the ordinary kriging and the Gaussian sequential simulation. Comparison among both set of results recommended the use of the Gaussian sequential simulation in order to make the ore exploration activities more efficient, improving the interactions between the geological and engineering operations.
