Abstract
The use of undergraduate-created videos for geotechnical laboratory course instruction is described. Undergraduates filmed part of the experimental procedures for their labs and included the edited videos as part of their laboratory report. The use of videos tended to enhance student understanding. Student understanding is examined, the level of student enjoyment of the laboratory increased and the novelty of the exercise increased student involvement in the lab. The video program was performed at two universities. The creation of videos adds a new visual aspect to the instructional experience, one of the several ways learning takes place. Experiences managing the program, use of the hardware and editing software, evaluation, and grading the exercises are described.
