Abstract
The Student Association for International Water Issues (SAIWI) at the University of Nevada, Reno works to develop an understanding of global water issues through community empowerment and water resource development. One of the methods used to bring clean water to developing countries is the Water for All International Manual Well Drilling method, which has many advantages for use in third world countries. This method combines manual labor with a simple mechanism to drill wells up to 100 meters. The benefits of this method include its relatively low cost, use of materials and parts that can be purchased or made in third world countries, and the ease in which the simple technology can be transferred to local communities. The most recent use of this method by SAIWI was in Nkambe, Cameroon where a well was drilled 12 meters deep, bringing clean water to the surrounding community.
