Robust Optimization of the Water System in Amman, Jordan
Publication: World Environmental and Water Resources Congress 2010: Challenges of Change
Abstract
Data presented in the authors' presentation on the Greater Amman Area's (GAA's) water resources are input to a mathematical program — a robust optimization model — of the GAA' s water system. Given the water demanded by each sector in the GAA, water availability from each source (conventional and alternative), wastewater treatment capacity, and the unit costs to supply water and dispose of wastewater, the optimization model minimizes the cost of water system development and operation through a range of potential future scenarios. Future scenarios incorporate projections of the effects on the GAA of climate change, economic development, demographic movement, and continuous vs. intermittent supply paradigms.
