Abstract
Multipurpose reservoir operation often involves optimization of multiple conflicting objectives. In this paper, a Multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) is developed in which non-domination sorting and crowding distance approaches are used to find Pareto optimal solutions. The model is developed to optimize two objectives of water supply to downstream demand points and sediment removal from the reservoir through release control. The model is tested for the case study of Sefid-roud Reservoir in North of Iran which supplies water to several urban communities and agricultural lands and also suffers from significant storage loss due to high rate of sedimentation in the reservoir.
