Load Deformation Behavior of Drilled Shafts in Residual Soil

Abstract

This paper presents a case study of the construction and load testing of drilled shafts installed in residual soil that gradually transitions to weathered volcanic rock. The drilled shafts are 1219 mm non-production shafts installed in the vicinity of the foundations of a suspension bridge that carries petrochemical export pipelines over a marginally stable steep volcanic bluff.
