Abstract
In this paper, existing methods for interpreting coefficient of consolidation in clays from piezocone dissipation tests are briefly reviewed. Piezocone tests have been conducted at different sites in Jiangsu province of China. Piezocone dissipation tests were performed at different penetration depths. Two existing interpretation methods were made on the CPT dissipation data analyzing both monotonic and dilatory pore pressure decay behaviors. The interpreted values are compared with the reference cv values determined from the laboratory oedometer tests. It is shown that the CPT interpretation values are generally four times larger than the cv values obtained through conventional oedometer test for Jiangsu Quaternary clay deposits. The values of cvh obtained by the CPTU method are in the range of back-analyzed field values.
