Spatial and Temporal Sampling Frequencies Analysis Using the Discrete Entropy Theory: A Case Study of River Water Quality Monitoring
Publication: World Environmental and Water Resources Congress 2008: Ahupua'A
Abstract
In this paper, the Discrete Entropy Theory is used for optimal locating of monitoring stations and determining the sampling frequencies for the monitoring system of the Jajrood River in the Northern part of Tehran, Iran. This important river system supplies a considerable part of the domestic water demand of the Tehran metropolitan area with a population of 10 million people. The efficiency of the existing monitoring system is quantified using the measure of Transinformation in the Discrete Entropy Theory. The results show that the proposed approach can be effectively used for revising the existing river water quality monitoring systems.
