Abstract
The Villanova University constructed stormwater wetland (CSW) has been an active research facility since 2000 and is a capable at storm flow reduction and water quality improvement. While successful, the present system may not be the optimal design. We develop a model to serve as an effective tool to examine various, proposed solutions to create an efficient CSW system. In this case, the existing configuration is used as a reference to develop and calibrate a model describing the system's flow regime and performance. The model is extended to simulations of flow through different wetland configurations, to quantify the effects of wetland design on hydrodynamics and determine the optimal design for a CSW. Additionally, as baseflow accounts for 50% of the yearly flows within a CSW, both storm event and baseflow conditions are simulated to determine optimal design for stormwater control and pollutant removal over a full range of flow conditions.
