Abstract
This paper focuses on grated drainage system for urban drainage and aims to develop a computational method to determine the extent of surface water ponding for this type of drainage system. The investigation included.a field testing of the grated drainage system using recycled water to determine the orifice coefficient of the grated drainage system. It is found that the orifice coefficient for this type of grated drainage system is near 1.23. This type of drainage system can be used in a ponding situation as long as the risks associated with such ponding are managed by using an appropriate risk management plan. This paper also provides a step by step design procedure of the grated drainage system which is based on on-site detention calculations.
