Abstract
Inertial attenuators are massive concrete blocks, aligned along the edge of the pavement to form barrier walls for traffic safety in construction zones. During heavy storm events it is extremely important to provide for adequate drainage of roadway runoff accumulating along these walls, so that water does not spread back into driving lanes, becoming a hazard. This paper presents a simple method to estimate flow and spread which has been implemented as a computer program to assist in the evaluation of the performance of the barrier wall system.
