Critical Issues in the Representation of BMPs in Urban Drainage Models
Publication: World Environmental and Water Resources Congress 2007: Restoring Our Natural Habitat
Abstract
The best management practices (BMPs) are generally designed at the site-scale to meet the regulatory requirements for their pre and post-construction performance. In large-urban drainage systems, however, the performance objectives of BMPs may be targeted far downstream of where they are located. The integration of BMPs into urban drainage models becomes critical. In this paper, the issues related to application of a large-scale model to represent BMP performances are discussed, along with an example of an environmental impact study performed for a green building development in New York City. The recommendations for improvement of urban drainage models in terms of BMP representations are also presented.
