DRASTIC Modeling for Vulnerability Assessment Using ArcGIS

Abstract
This paper uses DRASTIC Model to evaluate vulnerability impact on aquifers from nitrate contamination. The contamination occurs due to fertilizer application in agricultural areas in central States of United States. This nonpoint source pollution problem can be effectively analyzed using the DRASTIC Model integrated on an ArcGIS platform. This research presents an example of analysis in Enid region in Oklahoma for nitrate contamination. The results are validated with observed data of high nitrates in Enid area for 2004–05. The methodology is versatile and can be applied to aquifers anywhere in the US or around the world.
