Simplified Procedure for Seismic Analysis of Sites with Deep Soil Mixing

Publication: GeoSupport 2004: Drilled Shafts, Micropiling, Deep Mixing, Remedial Methods, and Specialty Foundation Systems

Abstract

The paper reports the results of a parametric study undertaken to investigate the influence of deep mixing (DM) of soil columns on the porewater pressure response in the vicinity of the treatment. The study utilized a two-dimensional effective stress program, TARA-2M. The predictive capability of TARA-2M was initially verified by using a well-documented centrifuge database generated as a part of the NSF funded study VELACS. The porewater pressure responses have been provided for two levels of excitation (amax = 0.2g and 0.4g) and for two DM column spacing distances. Computed results show the extent of the influence of the treated columns in reducing the excess porewater pressures. The results are presented in normalized form such that the estimates of porewater pressures at interior locations can be made, if porewater pressure response is known in the free-field.
