Present and Future of European Research on Information Technologies in Construction

Abstract
The aim of the paper is to give a synthesis of current Research and Technological Development (RTD) initiatives and results in Europe in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These initiatives have the aim to set-up an agenda for future RTD, so as to ensure that, in the future, all European companies from the building and civil engineering sectors achieve maximum business benefits from the adoption of ICT solutions in the knowledge economy. Especially, the paper introduces to the ICCI cluster project dealing with harmonization and integration of outcomes from major EC-funded projects, and the ROADCON project which is an IST Strategic Roadmap with the mission to develop a Construction industry strategic roadmap implementing an ICT-driven vision for the next 5 to 15 years.
