The authors would like to correct an error that they made in preparing two plots in their closure that showed the variation of the soil behavior type index () with depth at two sites. Figs. 1(c) and 2(c) in the closure had incorrect profiles. The correct profiles of at these two sites are shown in the revised Figs. 1 and 2. The authors’ findings in the original closure remain the same. As stated previously, although is useful in discriminating between different soil types preliminarily, it provides only an indication of soil type. Soil samples should be retrieved to confirm its applicability on a site-specific basis. Plasticity index (PI) and the water content to liquid limit ratio () are more reliable indexes of liquefaction susceptibility.
