Abstract
Terzaghi presented a graphical solution to the lateral earth pressure problem of cohesive backfill with an inclined surface. This procedure becomes tiresome for solving practical retaining wall problems because several Mohr circles need to be drawn to determine the lateral earth pressure profile. This paper presents an analytical solution to this problem. The values of active and passive earth pressure coefficients ka and kp for various values of ϕ, β, and c/γz are presented in tabular form. An example is provided to illustrate the application.
