National Institute of Building Science’s Building Enclosure Technology and Energy Council Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary in 2012

The Building Enclosure Technology and Energy Council (BETEC), a council of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), will be participating in the Improving Resiliency through High Performance conference to be held January 7–10, 2013, in Washington, D.C.
Building Innovation 2013 will present informative programming from the Institute’s councils, committees, ongoing projects, the BETEC symposium special topic, and celebrate its 30th anniversary in service to the design, manufacturing, and construction of building enclosures.

ASTM Has Developed a New Standard for Enclosure Commissioning—ASTM E2813

The design and construction of a building envelope can directly affect the performance of the building, including but not limited to resistance to air and water infiltration and energy efficiency. A new ASTM international standard—Practice for Building Enclosure Commissioning, ASTM E2813—provides a concise, technically sound, and enforceable document that can easily be referenced and readily applied in building construction. The ASTM Standard for Enclosure Commissioning is being developed by Subcommittee E06.55 on Exterior Building Wall Systems, part of ASTM International Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings.

BETEC Is Currently Updating NIBS Guideline 03

BETEC is currently updating NIBS Guideline 03—NIBS Guideline 3-2006: Exterior Enclosure Technical Requirements for the Commissioning Process, National Institute of Building Sciences, 2006.
The second edition of the ASTM Manual 18—Moisture Control in Buildings—has been updated and is available from www.ASTM.org. The updated manual includes a discussion on quality management for the design and construction of building enclosures.
