Love Wave in a Voigt-Type Viscoelastic Heterogeneous Layer Overlying Heterogeneous Viscoelastic Half-Space

Publication: International Journal of Geomechanics
Volume 17, Issue 1

Abstract

Deformation in two heterogeneous layers and viscoelastic Voigt Earth is solved analytically, and the propagation of Love waves in a viscoelastic heterogeneous layer overlying heterogeneous viscoelastic half-space is shown because of the point source effect across the interface. Interior deformation inside the Earth model is calculated using Green’s function and the Fourier transform. The heterogeneity in rigidity, mass density, and internal friction of both viscoelastic media are considered to vary with depth. The effects of heterogeneity of both media are shown in dispersion graphs. In the absence of heterogeneities of the medium, the results obtained are in agreement with the results obtained by other relevant researchers. The results may be useful in understanding the nature of seismic wave propagation in geophysical applications.
