Stability and Optimization of the Portal Frame with Rigid Members and Flexible Joints
Publication: Journal of Engineering Mechanics
Volume 137, Issue 5
Abstract
This paper considers a portal frame with rigid members and flexible joints. The stability and postbuckling characteristics are derived analytically. The optimum frame to raise a load to a given height is trapezoidal in shape, with only the top two joints heavily strengthened.
