Updates to the Editorial Board

Publication: Journal of Construction Engineering and Management
Volume 138, Issue 10
On behalf of ASCE journal publications and the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (JCEM) Editorial Board, I would like to thank Dr. Feniosky Peña-Mora for his steady and tireless service to this journal as Specialty Editor of Information Technology. We look forward to his continued participation as an author and reviewer.
It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Mani Golparvar-Fard as Assistant Specialty Editor of Information Technology. Dr. Golparvar-Fard joined Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as an assistant professor in August 2010. He is currently a faculty member of the Via Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Myers-Lawson School of Construction. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology in 2002 and 2005, respectively. He continued his studies in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of British Columbia, where he obtained his M.A.Sc. in civil engineering (Project and Construction Management) in 2006. He then moved to the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and obtained an M.Sc. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 2010. Throughout his career, Dr. Golparvar-Fard has also been involved in the design and construction of several building and infrastructure projects. His latest appointment was with Turner Construction Company.
Dr. Golparvar-Fard is currently the director of the Real-Time and Automated Monitoring and Control (RAAMAC) Laboratory, and is an active member of several academic and professional organizations. His research focuses on visual sensing and augmented reality visualization of construction and building performance metrics. He is particularly interested in creating and developing computer vision and machine learning techniques to automatically monitor construction performance from still images and site video streams, and building information modeling to reason about building elements, systems, and contents to support model-based assessment of performance metrics. The algorithms developed in Dr. Golparvar-Fard’s research have led to a system prototype for generating D4AR-4D Augmented Reality models that automatically integrate as-built and as-planned models and enable automated monitoring and visualization of construction progress deviations.
We welcome Dr. Golparvar-Fard to the JCEM Editorial Board.
