Inspection, Diagnosis, and Rehabilitation System of Door and Window Frames

Abstract
This paper presents a support system for the inspection, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of door and window frames with the purpose of standardizing and systemizing the procedures of those responsible for these actions. In this study, a classification of anomalies is proposed along with their probable causes. To assist the diagnosis of the anomalies and respective causes, a classification of in situ nondestructive tests and repair techniques is presented to ensure the maintenance and/or to restore the functional properties of the framework system. Within the study several correlation matrices were created relating anomalies with other anomalies, probable causes, and diagnosis and rehabilitation techniques. This system was validated and calibrated through an extensive campaign of 295 frame inspections in 96 Portuguese army and air force buildings. The implementation of this system supports the inspection activities of a proactive maintenance strategy and the standardization of inspections, resulting in an increase in the effectiveness and objectivity of the actions to be taken upon the occurrence of these anomalies.
