Publication: Practice Periodical of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Management

New Manuscript Submission Requirements

All manuscripts submitted to the Practice Periodical of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Management should be accompanied by a list of four potential reviewers suggested by the author(s). This list should include the complete name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address and at least five keywords that identify the expertise of each reviewer. The periodical is not obligated to use all or any of the recommended reviewers; however, we feel that this policy will lead to an improved review process.

Special Issues

We have had several dedicated issues in the past on special topics, and we plan to follow this practice in the future. The following topics are planned for future dedicated or special issues in the order listed:
Bioenergy and biofuels from waste,
Sustainability,
Membrane technology,
Nanomaterials and nanotechnology,
Emerging contaminants of concern,
Landfills and bioreactors,
Green engineering,
Bioremediation, and
Health risk assessment.

Guest Editor

Dr. Patrick Hettiaratchi is professor and associate head of undergraduate studies in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Hettiaratchi received a BSc(Hons) in civil engineering from the University of Sri Lanka, an MEng in environmental engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, and a PhD in civil/environmental engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Dr. Hettiaratchi has been active in teaching, research, consulting, and service in the areas of solid and hazardous waste management, greenhouse gas emission control, contaminated sites management, and landfill technology. Dr. Hettiaratchi has been extremely successful in attracting research funding from government and industry sources for his research on biocell technology and methane emission control.
Over the past 12years , he has maintained an enviable track record in terms of his research output, with more than 100 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and numerous technical reports and invited presentations. Dr. Hettiaratchi’s numerous internationalization initiatives have led to successful collaborative educational and research partnerships in several Asian (Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India) and Latin American (Ecuador, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia) countries.
In recognition of his significant contributions and achievements, he has received several national and international awards, including the Iraj Zandi (2001) and Russell Ackoff (2006) awards from the Journal of Solid Waste Technology and Management, the Best Theoretical Paper Award from the ASCE for his innovations in the modeling of biological oxidation and migration of CH4 in soils (2002), The Environmental Achievement Award from the City of Calgary (2006), the Science and Technology Innovation Award from the Emerald Foundation of Alberta (2007), and the Shell/ASTech Award for Environmental Innovation from the Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Leadership Foundation (2008).
