Abstract
The compression index, in the case of remolded clay), which is obtained from the (e: void ratio, p: consolidation pressure) curve of the consolidation test, is used to calculate the consolidation settlement. The initial porosity, was introduced as a factor which is satisfied with the condition and the type of soil, and the relationship between and was expressed with a good correlation for several remolded clays having a wide range of plasticity. Moreover, it was found that the relationship between and for undisturbed Ariake clay was also expressed with a good correlation independent of sensitivity ratio,
