Abstract

A general refined analysis procedure for predicting the vehicular live load distribution on simply supported bridge girders is described. Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) distribution factor formulas for flexure are carefully reviewed for modern prestressed concrete bridges made of I-girders or spread box girders with larger span-to-depth ratios. LRFD's results are compared with those obtained from the refined analysis method. Design recommendations are offered.
