Abstract
The normal and lognormal distributions are frequently used in hydrology. As these distributions are in the form of integrals, they cannot be used for generation of normal and lognormal random numbers using inverse transforms. In this study, functions closely approximating the normal and lognormal distributions have been obtained and their use in hydrological studies is indicated.
