Field-Data Analysis for Stream Depletion

Abstract
An analytical solution obtained by Hunt in 2003 for flow to a well beside a stream in a semiconfined aquifer is compared with field measurements obtained by Weir in 1999. The analytical solution assumes that the pumped aquifer is bounded on top by a semipermeable aquitard containing a shallow standing water table, and the stream partially penetrates this aquitard. The aquifer response is similar to the response obtained in Boulton’s 1963 solution for delayed-yield flow to a well, except that a steady-flow solution is approached in the analytical solution at large values of time. The comparison shows that the new solution gives an improved description of the experimental data.
