Best Paper Awards

I would like to announce the Best Paper Award winners from our October 2005 and January, April, and July 2006 issues. From our Engineering Education and Practice papers, the Best Paper Award goes to: Andrew T. Rose, Associate Professor, Division of Engineering Technology, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, for his paper “Graphical Communication Using Hand-Drawn Sketches in Civil Engineering.” His paper was published in our October 2005 issue, Vol. 131, No. 4., pp. 238–247.
From our Legal Affairs papers, the Best Paper Award goes to: D. A. Vallero, Adjunct Professor of Engineering Ethics, Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University; P. A. Vesilind, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and R. L. Rooke, Chair in the Historical and Societal Context of Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bucknell University, for their paper “Preventing Disputes with Empathy.” This paper was published in our July 2006 issue, Vol. 132, No. 3, pp. 272–278.
I encourage you to dig out your back issues and reread these fine papers. The quality of our journal depends on the quality of author submissions, and manuscripts of this caliber provide a valuable service to the profession.
