Strength of Concrete Subjected to Pullout Load

Abstract
In the present paper, the theoretical results obtained in a punching theory for concrete slabs are applied to the case of pullout failure. In order to explain the difference between the experimental loads and those predicted by the said theory a process of hardening in tension of concrete is hypothesized as being due to the small size of the reaction ring of the pullout test apparatus. The assumption is made in order to provide reliable expressions to predict the concrete strength from the pullout load. Some equations are provided to predict concrete strength from the pullout load. In order to obtain analogous expressions to confirm the theoretical results, an appropriate statistical-mathematical procedure has been performed on experimental data found in the literature, and some other equivalent equations are derived. Good agreement is found in the comparison between actual and calculated values of the main intervening variables in the problem.
