Abstract
This paper reports the bridge damage in the Chi Chi earthquake. Damage to bridge structures may occur in the superstructure, the substructure, or the approaches. Typical types of damage are discussed and illustrated in this paper. A review of the design specifications in Taiwan is also presented to give the background on the seismic design of highway bridges in Taiwan.
