Abstract
Adaptive wood composites consisting of wood and piezoelectric materials are investigated experimentally. Two physical samples of adaptive composites are constructed and tested to determine the levels of adaptive actuation. To actuate the composites, electric fields are applied to the piezoelectric layer, inducing strain in the composites. These experimental results are compared with those predicted by a mathematical model, the agreement between the theory and experiment is determined, and the limits in their construction are assessed.
