RC Coupled Shear Wall Structures. II: Ultimate Strength Calculations
Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 117, Issue 3
Abstract
Three modes of failure of reinforced concrete coupled shear wall structures, observed in microconcrete models of 15‐story structures, are described. A method is proposed to predict the mode of failure and the ultimate strength of coupled shear wall structures. The method is based on the evaluation of the strengths of the coupling beams and the walls at failure. Two lateral load cases have been considered: a point load at the top and a four‐point equivalent triangular distribution. The proposed analysis and the test results are compared.
