Reinforced Concrete Beam‐Columns and Beams on Elastic Foundation

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 115, Issue 3

Abstract

A method is presented for analysis of the stresses and strains in plane frames composed of straight noncracked reinforced concrete members with or withour prestressing subjected to large axial forces and/or supported on elastic foundations. The analysis can be performed by the computer program CBC (concrete beam‐columns), which accounts for the stress redistribution in individual sections and the changes in internal forces due to the effects of creep and shrinkage of concrete and relaxation of prestressed steel. The program may be used to verify the stability of frames under sustained loads. It may also be used to calculate the effect of temperature changes which may vary arbitrarily over the depth of the cross sections of members. The effect of differential creep and shrinkage over the depth of section, as may occur in pavements or water storage tanks, is considered.
